Sofia is the Bulgarian capital and its largest city, and is situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the very centre of the Balkan Peninsula. With a variety of architectural styles, picturesque scenery and easy access to outdoor activities, this city is a definite must-see!
From well-preserved city walls built in the 7th-century BC through to the early Medieval buildings. From the 4th-century Rotunda St. George and 10th-century Boyana Church with its stunning 13th-century frescoes to Socialist-era monumental constructions, Sofia offers a real treat for the city dwellers and history lovers.
Most of the popular landmarks are located in the Oborishte district, the most central part of the city featuring plenty of greenery, cobbled streets and the most popular landmark, the Neo-Byzantine Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Sofia offers plenty of natural sites too, including the renowned thermal and mineral springs, the primary reason Thracians established the city here before the 7th-century BC. Enjoy a walk in the most popular parks, the Borisova gradina or the impressive Vitosha Nature Park with over 270 square km situated entirely within the city limits.
From hiking to skiing on the Vitosha and from sightseeing to relaxing in mineral springs, Sofia offers a plethora of fun for everyone! On Booking.com you can find nearly 190 properties in the city: from 5-star accommodation in the city centre to convenient hotels near Sofia Airport.
Very cozy sunny city with a lot of parks and vegetation.
Very cozy sunny city with a lot of parks and vegetation. Clean, modern, decent size, no feeling of a hectic megapolis, everywhere is nerby, Pitoresque architectrure with fairly low buildings in sort of harmonical balance.. very good system of public transport, delicious healthy food, reasonable prices and easy going smiling people. I nwas very plaesantly surprised. I liked Sofia more than Budapest or Bucuresti in fact and will be happy to return...

We spent an afternoon in Sofia, mostly the bus/train station and Serdika areas. The bus stations desperately needs modernisation and more facilities but buses run on time so we can't argue with that.
It was an enjoyable few hours, the people were friendly, there are some roman ruins in the Serdika area with churches/mosques and a synagogue we saw. The trams through the city were very frequent. We used the metro for the airport and to our apartment which is excellent.

Very cozy city; a mix of old communism buildings and modern life, pubs and restaurants. Beautiful mix of different cultures (mosque, orthodox churches, catholic churches and sinagogues in the same street). It's really a place to visit in the Balkan area

Liked the hotel, thexploring the city. the drive up the mountain and the view from the top of the old disused cable car, not many interesting attractions and the City does not appear to be geared up yet for international tourism.

Sofia is very walkable.
Sofia is very walkable. I didn't need to use the metro or taxis for my itinerary. I spent 2.5/3 days there and saw everything I needed to leisurely.
The churches are beautiful. I recommend visiting them all, even briefly. Vitosha Boulevard is great but a little bit of a tourist trap. I'd still recommend walking along there and picking up souvenirs, having food and drink.
Shishman Street is less of a tourist trap and is lively during the evenings.
Food is good in general. There are plenty of options. I particularly liked Arbat (Russian restaurant) which is opposite the Russian Orthodox Church, St Nicholas. There are also many market stalls around, mostly between here and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
If you want some comfort/western food, I'd recommend Skaptoburger on Shishman Street - really good.
Nightlife is also great - Shishman Street and those nearby (Bar Friday, Beach Bar, Kristal Bar, etc.) and also many nightclubs around if that's of interest.
The reception staff were exceptional from the start. The most beautiful Bulgarian lady was so warm and welcoming and the funny little gay guy was superb at taking the time to show us around. He was never too busy. His remarkable ability to listen to even the slightest complaint was astonishing. This pocket dynamite of a man was phenomenal - his generosity was breathtaking - always offering discounts when we never asked and any problem with a room mate his problem solving skills were from Mars - so far out of this world!
Situated right in the center but really quiet since the apartment is in a house in the back yard. Check-in was contactless and really easy. Everything (supermarket, bakery, bars, restaurants and sights) is nearby.
The apartment is nicely furnished, the bed comfortable and there is a nice coffee machine. It was exceptionally clean and the bathroom was the only one we had during our Bulgaria round trip with natural light.
In general, it is a good value for money. Close to the bus/train station, close to city center, very nice Bulgarian restaurant 2 min away. Very friendly girl at the reception, helped me to find a place to get PCR test and called me a taxi to the airport for a great price. They allowed me to storage my bags before check in. Rooms are fairly big, you have everything you need.
The staff at the hotel were very nice; cheerful and helpful. The location is also not bad and can be accessed from city centre by foot. The hotel may be small but they tried to be careful and considerate with tiny details. Toiletries, coffee and 2 bottles of water were provided in the room. They also arrange for coffee and small Bulgarian bread/pastries in the morning.
A great modern hotel in the heart of the city. Lots of restaurants and other points of interest (metro etc.) close by. Friendly and helpful people at the desk.
Especially the breakfast buffet was wonderful, served in a space with views to the Palace of Culture "park". Even had a little "Bulgarian corner" with superb local delicacies.
All good, location in the center. The receptionist speaks Italian, which was great to communicate. Breakfast included, which is coffee, a croissant and one egg (I would add a Bulgarian yogurt, they are great). Get in touch with the property by booking.com to schedule the check-in, as the receptionist is not always there.
The room was clean, big enough for two people. The view on on side of the building wasn't so interesting. They offer you coffee in your room every day. Confortable beds, clean blankets. Hotel close to the metro not far from the city center and the main attractions.
We liked the closeness of this hotel to historical sites and parks in Sofia. It was convenient to restaurants and shopping. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. We even booked our last two nights here at the end of our time in Bulgaria.
This is our second time staying at this hotel. The room was quiet as we requested. The staff is very friendly, assists in everything. Excellent location, we could reach all attractions, cafes, shopping centers on foot. The spa was also nice.
I’ve been many times, and for location, comfort, friendliness of the staff,a super breakfast, and general attention to detail, I have no wish to change my very happy habit of staying regularly with the Hotel on my frequent visits to Bulgaria.
The appointment was clean and spacious. It had everything needed for a comfortable stay for a family. Best shower of all of the places we stayed in Bulgaria!
Short walk to the metro. Private parking. Easy communication with the host.
The breakfast was quite good, typical Bulgarian hotel fare. There was a little confusion: I had imagined that breakfast was included in the price, but found out that I had to pay separately for it. That was easily remedied, though.
Location in the centre of Bulgaria’s 🇧🇬capital, ideal for short walks in the central part; very close to historical monuments, art galleries, theaters, state institutions.
Very clean rooms, very kind and helpful staff
Everything I personally like is provided at breakfast including soy milk and tomato juice. Also an assortment of Bulgarian pastries. Breakfasts are delicious, rooms spacious and modern.
Staff are very kind and helpful.
- nice clean room
- good breakfast
- good free private parking
- good value for the money
- the hotel is rated as 3 stars, but according to our experience in Bulgaria it is more like a 4 stars hotel
Perfect place,very close to the center(5 minutes walking)clean rooms,very frendly staff,its clean
Have a super bar and chill music all day 👌(thanks for the bulgarian beer 👍
